Young people with ME in Wales!

Hi! My name is Michelle Penny. I live in south Wales and have had ME since about 1995.

Would you like to get in touch with other people with ME in Wales, aged under 26? Do you want to find out more about what's happening for ypwme in Wales (good and bad)? If you do, then get in the loop by contacting me at michelle@wames.org.uk

Let me know if you want to receive our occasional newsletter (free of charge) or you could add something to these web pages. We'd like to hear from you. Send me your stories, questions, jokes, puzzles, poems, graphics, design ideas etc.

Meet young people with ME

More about Michelle:

I live with my mum and older brother. My dad died when I was 6. During the years that I have had ME there has been a lot of ups and downs both health-wise and just generally in life but I hope that working with WAMES I can make things better for young people in the future so they don't have to go through what I went through. I have been disbelieved by professionals, referred to Social Services, struck off by my GP at 16 and refused an education all because of ME. This doesn't happen to everyone luckily, it is only a small minority.

As I can't leave the house without the use of a wheelchair I spend most of my time at home and when I can I enjoy short trips out. My main interests are: Listening to music, getting on the internet for a short period of time when I can to see what the World is doing and rug making, which only happens when I have the energy and only for a short period of time at once which is why I have been doing the same rug for at least three years and I still haven't finished it!!

I left school age 16 with no qualifications whatsoever but when my health will allow me to I am going to go to College and get some qualifications and hopefully, health permitting, I will become a teacher. Education is a life long process and although I haven't got qualifications at the same time as my peers have that doesn't matter because life has taught me more than school ever could.
