The Wales Neurological Alliance is a collaborative forum of a wide range of neurological charities. By working together members of the Alliance pursue the highest standards of service and care for children, young people and adults and their families and carers in Wales affected by a neurological condition.

• Raise awareness of neurological conditions and their impact on individuals and society
• Inforrn and influence policy makers in Wales about the needs of people with neurological conditions
• Secure improved care for people living in Wales with neurological conditions
• Promote the dissemination of information about neurological conditions
• Support and promote appropriate research.

• Ensure that people have significantly improved access to expert diagnostic services
• Ensure there is good quality access to local treatment, support, care and rehabilitation
• Improve availability of information, advice and services at a local level
• Promote a clear data gathering exercise of the prevalence of neurological conditions in Wales
• Support the development of audit and research.

We are strongly concerned about:

• The very low priority given to addressing the needs of the large and diverse group of people affected by neurological conditions
• The need for nationally acceptable standards of care
• Fragmentation and lack of co-ordination between hospital and community services, health and social care, statutory and voluntary sector organisations
• Raising awareness amongst health, social care and other professionals about the physical, social and psychological impact of neurological conditions
• Ensuring that those who are affected are involved in the management of their condition. [July 2004]
