Many people who develop ME/CFS are too ill to continue to work. Those who are mildly or moderately affected may however wish to continue in employment, either returning to the same workplace in a modified capacity or changing to a more ME-friendly post.
ME/CFS is covered under the Equality Act 2010, so employers will be legally required not to discriminate against people with disabilities and learn to make ‘reasonable adjustments’ to accomodate their needs.
Support at work for people with ME – this booklet covers support employers can give including reasonable adjustments, occupational health support from a specialist clinician, Access to Work, returning to work after sickness absence.
Training from Astriid – this charity provides paid training to organisations and leadership teams who are working to improve their workplace inclusion and maximise their ability to use of the skills and creativity of people with long term conditions.
Skills and recruitment support for employers – The Welsh Government provides information online about: Inclusive apprenticeships; Disabled People’s Employment Champions; Disability confident; Access to Work.
The Disabled People’s Employment Champions offer free advice, information and support to employers across Wales. By simply engaging with a Champion you have the opportunity to access a tailored package of support for your business – helping it become a leader in inclusivity.
